ATHENS - After beating the Texas Longhorns twice on the field last season, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs just punched them in the face on the recruiting trail.
It’s already been a massive week for the Dawgs and now they’ve landed their sixth commitment in the last six days in four-star defensive back Chace Calicut.
A long-time Texas target, it only took Georgia two months to win over the long, athletic defender out of North Shore (TX) in Houston. Assistant Donte Williams offered Calicut during an in-home visit in late April and was able to land his commitment today over Texas and Michigan.
Calicut was in Athens for his official visit the weekend of June 6th before taking trips to Ann Arbor and Austin. When it came time to make a commitment, Calicut chose the defending SEC Champions.
What will Calicut bring to Athens?
Size, physicality, and versatility.
Simply put, Calicut is a ball-hawk. He brings outstanding instincts in coverage, but he’s also a willing tackler who wants to deliver a big hit every time he gets an opportunity to do so.
At 6-foot-3 190-pounds, Calicut brings impressive length and is a bigger cornerback who can run with speedy receivers down the field. He’s sound in his technique with quick feet, fluid hips, and the ability to find the football and make a play on it.
The four-star plays safety for his North Shore team but sources say the Georgia staff likes him at cornerback. He brings the size they’re looking for and he hits and plays the run like a safety. He loves contact and brings an intimidating presence on the outside.
The Bulldogs got in on Calicut late in the process, but it’s easy to see what they liked about his game. He covers a lot of ground down the field, and against the run, Calicut knows how to take great angles to track down the ball-carrier. He’s tough, instinctive, and has a natural feel for the position. He can line up all over the secondary so he’ll give the Georgia staff flexibility there. Overall, he has the potential to turn into a tough, hard-hitting cornerback who can make plays on the perimeter.
Texas wanted to keep him home. Michigan recruited him hard from the beginning. But in the end, Calicut chose to leave home and play for Kirby Smart and the Dawgs.
It’s another giant pickup during one of the biggest recruiting weeks we’ve seen in a long, long time.
And they may not be done either...
As for Calicut, he’s ranked as the No. 15 CB prospect and the No. 117 overall prospect in the country. He gives Georgia their third cornerback commitment, joining four-stars Justice Fitzpatrick and Caden Harris.
He also becomes Georgia’s 13th commitment in June and their 23rd overall commitment in the 2026 class.
