UGA Football running back Trevor Etienne was selected No. 114 overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2025 NFL Draft.

This is a loaded running back class, with many saying that it is the deepest since the 2017 draft that included Christian McCaffrey and Dalvin Cook. That is why Etienne’s declaration for the draft was a little surprising at the time.

Etienne is coming off of his junior year at Georgia (his only year in Athens) where he rushed for just 609 yards and nine touchdowns. More than half of those scores came in Georgia’s two matchups against Texas.

The former Florida back was brought in by Kirby Smart via the transfer portal to be Georgia’s top ball-carrier in 2024. That was immediately put on hold when he was suspended for the season opener against Clemson for a DUI-related arrest. He later suffered a rib injury against his former team which held him out for a few games. True freshman Nate Frazier ended up being Georgia’s leading rusher at the end of the season.

Etienne was underwhelming for the expectations that were placed on him once he transferred to Georgia, but he did find success in the red and black. He told the media that he transferred to be a part of something special and compete at the highest level. He got to do that when he scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime of the SEC Championship Game.

Etienne’s draft stock was boosted a bit early on in the offseason process. He was one of the standouts at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Then, at the NFL scouting combine, he clocked a 4.42-second 40-yard dash, which ranked sixth among running backs who competed.

Etienne is the younger brother of Travis Etienne, who was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. He enters the NFL with fresh legs. Etienne amassed just 433 career touches in college. He is also entering as an SEC Champion.
