ATHENS - UGA Football DB Dan Jackson was picked No. 230 Overall by the Detroit Lions in the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay.
Dan Jackson’s presence at Georgia has grow over the years, but it was always there. Stetson Bennett may be UGA Football’s most famous walk-on, but Jackson was there in Indianapolis - running into the end zone with Kelee Ringo on the game-winning score.
(We will leave out the part about him blowing his body up by absorbing a frustrated Alabama player as the celebration started).
Jackson was in on the blocked punt against Arkansas in 2021. He was a pivotal part of the UGA defense in 2023. Dan Jackson has been around for a while. But he’s going to be most remembered for dislodging the ball from Haynes King - a play that jumpstarted UGA’s improbable rally in the eight-overtime win over Georgia Tech in November. The Lions are considered one of the favorites to play in the Super Bowl again this season. Some of the best sportsbooks online have those odds out already.
King appeared to be short of the line to gain on third and one because of Jackson, but the ball dropped suddenly as the stadium stood silent wondering what happened. Nazir Stackhouse stood over the ball not knowing what was below him.
That’s when Carrolton native Chaz Chambliss fell on the ball - giving Carson Beck and the Dawgs the chance they needed to tie the game before Nate Frazier won it in the eight stanza of the greatest game between the centuries-old rivals.
Dan Jackson - a player UGA fans (and Tech) won’t soon forget.
