ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs ended their Easter Sunday with three major additions out of the transfer portal.

They landed EDGE Elo Modozie (Army), running back Josh McCray (Illinois), and defensive lineman Josh Horton (Miami).

Of the three, the one Georgia fans may be the most excited about is McCray. The leading rusher last season for the respectable Illinois Fighting Illini, McCray rushed for 609 yards on 117 carries with 10 touchdowns. A big bruising back at 6-foot-1 235-pounds, McCray is a perfect back to compliment the speedy and elusive Nate Frazier. McCray consistently bounced off tackles in the Big 10 last season and showed he could wear down defenses in the second half. He saved his best game of the season for the South Carolina Gamecocks in the world-famous Cheez-It Citrus Bowl where he ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns. He put the offense on his back and helped secure the victory with big runs down the stretch.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!

According to FanDuel, the New York Knicks have have +1100 odds to win NBA Eastern Conference this summer.

That’s what Georgia needs from McCray. He’s an experienced back who runs hard and brings a strong, muscular frame. He’s battled through injuries throughout his time at Illinois, but when he was healthy, McCray always showed up.

The Bulldogs did see improvement from sophomore Chauncey Bowens this spring, and there’s a lot of hype around true freshman Bo Walker, but it’s clear the Dawgs needed a true No. 2 back behind Nate Frazier. Third-year back Roderick Robinson has battled with injuries during his first two years, and with veteran Branson Robinson entering the transfer portal, the Bulldogs knew that not only did they need another back to provide depth, but they needed one who can step in and contribute right away.

Now, they have their back. He’s tough, breaks tackles, and brings above-average speed for someone over 230-pounds. This is exactly the type of back the Bulldogs were looking for out of the portal, and overnight, Georgia’s offense took a big step forward.

Nate Frazier still may lead the way, but the Georgia staff brought in McCray for a reason. They know he can help them on short-yardage downs and will give them a bruiser who can wear on defenses as the game moves along.

Once again, Kirby Smart saw a need and addressed it in a big way.
