NEW ORLEANS - UGA Football will kickoff against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Thursday afternoon at the Sugar Bowl.

UGA and Notre Dame will kickoff at 4 PM EST from the Superdome in New Orleans

The Sugar Bowl released this statement Wednsday afternoon:

“Tonight’s College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl has been postponed to tomorrow (Thursday) at 3 p.m. (Central) due to today’s early-morning terrorist attack. The decision was made in coordination with federal, state, and local authorities as well as the College Football Playoff, ESPN, the Southeastern Conference, the University of Georgia, the University of Notre Dame, and Caesars Superdome.”

The College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl was delayed by a day after an attack killed at least ten and injured dozens including a UGA student. UGA said all members of the schools' official party were accounted for after the attack.

"All parties and all agree that it is in the best interest that we postpone the game for 24 hours,"  Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said at a news conference Wednesday.

The FBI has taken the lead in the investigation on the attack

“Our prayers are with everyone involved in this horrific event, and we are here to support them in any way possible,” UGA AD Josh Brooks said in a statement. “As a native Louisianian, I know how special this place is. The people of New Orleans and this entire community are resilient and will remain strong during this time of healing.”

The Bulldogs had been scheduled to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Wednesday night 8:45 EST kickoff at the Superdome, which is only blocks away from the event. The game is the fourth quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff. The winner of the game will take on Penn State in the Orange Bowl next week in Miami.

ESPN reported Wednesday that the Superdome was "on lockdown Wednesday for security sweeps".

The Superdome and surrounding area is safe," Louisiana governor Jeff Landry said at a press conference.
