New Orleans, LA - UGA football quarterback Carson Beck has played his last snap as a Bulldog, but head coach Kirby Smart confirmed that Beck will be in New Orleans to support Gunner Stockton and his teammates in the Sugar Bowl.
“Yeah, he's going to join us in the next couple of days down here”, Smart said about Beck on Monday. “Big thing for him has been a part of his rehab process and what all he's had to do. He's had a really tough injury. He needed to get some rehab from people in Jacksonville. He's got a specialist that has worked with this injury.
“Brock Purdy had a very similar injury”, Smart added. “Nick Mullens, I think [Matthew] Stafford. He had several people. So when you talk about his team of people, including the surgeons, he's had to do a lot of work with that. So he's been there for Gunner throughout. He's supported Gunner, had multiple conversations with him. Looking forward to having him with us for this game.”
Beck helped lead the Bulldogs to the SEC Championship game after a strong close to the regular seaosn, leading the Bulldogs to a big home win over Tennessee and an eight-overtime win over rival Georgia Tech.
Beck eas injured on the final play of the first half against Texas in the SEC Championship game, but was able to come in for one final play, handing the ball off to Trevor Etienne who ran into the end-zone for the game-winning score.
It wasn’t a storybook ending, but Carson Beck left a winner. He’s now declared for the 2025 NFL Draft and can start throwing again later this spring. But for now, he’s still cheering on and supporting his Georgia teammates.
