ATHENS - Kirby Smart and UGA Football were ranked No. 5 in the 5th and penultimate College Football Playoff Committee rankings of the year Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs are ranked No. 5 in both the Coaches’ and AP Poll this week. Kirby Smart’s 10-2 Bulldogs are coming off an eight overtime win over Georgia Tech Friday night at Sanford Stadium in Athens. The Dawgs take on the Texas Longhorns in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta Saturday afternoon on ABC at 4:00.
The Bulldogs have wins over No. XX Clemson, No. XX Texas and No. XX Tennessee. UGA also has a loss to No. XX Alabama and No. XX Ole Miss. All of those games combined means the Dawgs have played the most-difficult schedule in college football this season.
The winner of the Southeastern Conference Championship Game between UGA and Texas is mandated to play in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the 91st Sugar Bowl in New Orleans at Caesars Superdome with a kickoff at 8:45 PM EST on ESPN. That game will be the final quarterfinal of the season.
