UGA Football QB Carson Beck: Texas Poses a Challange for Us
ATHENS - UGA Football QB Carson Beck said on Monday that the Georgia Bulldogs will have their hands full Saturday afternoon in Atlanta in the SEC Championship against the Texas Longhorns.
Q. How much of the overtime win over Georgia Tech inspires you into the championship game this weekend?
CARSON BECK: Yeah, obviously the win that we got over Georgia Tech was huge for us. Rivalry games are always fun and enjoyable.
I mean, to have that as the last regular-season game is something we always look forward to in the season. For it to kind of go down in that fashion will be one that we remember for a long time after that going down.
No, I think the team is in really good spirits. I think we're really excited to have this opportunity to be in the SEC Championship and compete for a championship. Obviously we'll prepare throughout the week, watch the film, prepare for Texas as we play them for the second time.
We're really excited for the opportunity.
Q. How do you feel about playing Texas for a second time? Do you see that as a good thing or is there more lurking in the background?
CARSON BECK: Yeah, no, I don't think it's a good or a bad thing. I mean, it's the first time I've ever had to play a team twice in a season. So it's a little bit different obviously.
We kind of know what their identity is as a team. They know what our identity is as a team. We faced each other before.
No, it will be interesting as we prepare through the week, what we like, what we don't like. Seeing the film, how they changed a little bit since the last time we played them.
Again, it's an exciting challenge. We're looking forward to it.
Q. What have you seen on film from the games after you played of how maybe they have evolved as a defense?
CARSON BECK: I think their defensive coordinator does a great job of mixing up looks, throwing different stuff at offenses based on how the offense wants to attack.
Obviously they have a lot of talent on their defense up front, in their linebacker core, the D-line, DBs. They play really good football. It is difficult to move the ball on them if you watch the film. They do a great job in all phases of the game in situational football.
No, I think as you watch the film, they mix up the looks. They try to keep the quarterback off kilter, try not to let you get comfortable as an offense, which that's who they are as a defense. That poses a challenge for us.
But no, like I said, I think we're excited for that challenge. We'll prepare the right way. Ultimately just have to go out there and execute.
