ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia Bulldog junior linebacker Jalon Walker has been named one of five finalists for the Butkus Award given to the nation’s top collegiate linebacker, according to an announcement from the Butkus Foundation.
Walker, a native of Salisbury, N.C., joins Clemson’s Barrett Carter, Ole Miss’ Chris Paul Jr., UCLA’s Carson Schwesinger and Oklahoma’s Danny Stutsman as finalists. The winner will be named by Dec. 10.
Walker is the first Bulldog finalist since Jamon Dumas-Johnson was included on the list in 2022. Former Georgia All-American and current Philadelphia Eagle Nakobe Dean won the 2021 Butkus Award after also winning the high school version during his prep days.
Walker is fourth on the team with 48 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, while bouncing between inside and outside linebacker for Georgia. He also has a pair of fumble recoveries and has anchored a defense that has only given up a combined 37 points in the fourth quarter this year.
Georgia (9-2, 6-2 SEC) plays host to Georgia Tech (7-4, 5-3 ACC) on Friday, Nov. 29. ABC will televise the regular season finale at 7:30 p.m.
