ATHENS - UGA Football coach Kirby Smart joined ESPN's College Gameday crew Saturday in Athens at Myers Quad to talk about the Dawg's huge game with the Tennessee Vols.

Kirby’s biggest focus of the segment seemed to be two declarations - that UGA can’t control the College Football Playoff Committee, and that Georgia fans would be “elite” Saturday night in Sanford Stadium.

“Tonight our fans are going to be elite,” he said. "When we go at night it is going to be special. I think our fans are going to be up for it tonight.”

When asked about the Bulldogs being left out of the CFP post-season tournament this week, Kirby said the Bulldogs didn’t talk about it.

“We didn't talk about it. We didn't have to talk about it. We went out and had a great practice Wednesday,” he said. “We are not playing the College Football Playoff Committee - we are playing Tennessee. We have to focus on task at hand.”

That task is beating No. 7 Tennessee, which Kirby said would be a challenge considering the way the Vols are playing.

"They make you play basketball on grass. They do a tremendous job of going with pace. They are back on the ball within ten seconds,” he said. “We don't want to gift anything, and a lot of their plays happen because you aren't lined up. You have to get lined up and give nothing for free. That's what we preach: No run after catch.”
