ATHENS - Kirby Smart and No. 2 UGA football are headed to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. Here is what will happen this weekend for the Dawgs and all over college football... according to the Dawg Post crew.
Miami (-11) at Georgia Tech | ESPN | 12:00 PM
Matt’s Pick: What am I missing here? This Miami team is looking to score as many points as possible. They had Duke beat easily and decided to rub their face in it for the late cover. They’ve got an explosive offense and one that should lead them to a comfortable victory. This feels too easy, though. Something is off here, but I’ll take the Canes anyway. Miami (-11).
Ryan’s Pick: I am having fun with this Miami team. I don’t think it will win the national championship. I am not sure that it truly is a top-5 team either. What I know about Miami is that it has a lot of talent and loves to score. I was a little foolish when I told you guys Georgia Tech could end up ranked this season after the Florida State win. Haynes King might be back, but the Hurricanes (-11) will cover.
Dean’s Pick: I’m going to take the Miami (-11) here. I’m not sure I am in love with this group think on here. I will add that Miami has shown the ability to really struggle when they have no business needed to, so there is some concern there.
Florida (+21.5) at Texas | ABC | 12:00 PM
Matt’s Pick: I’ll take the Gators here. They’re playing tough, and if DJ Lagway is good to go, I like Florida keeping this one somewhat close. They play hard defensively, they can clearly make plays in coverage, and that seems to be way too many points for a Texas team that may take them lightly. I’ll take the Gators to lose but cover. Florida (+21.5).
Ryan’s Pick: DJ Lagway is listed as questionable. Dude. I don’t know what questionable means. I know it angers fantasy football participants as well. I will go with the Longhorns (-21.5). It is a big line, and I think Florida will give some fight, but no Lagway means no cover for the Gators, and they might not even if he is in the lineup.
Dean’s Pick: Give me the Gators (+21.5). I think they’ll fight enough to get me a win here. Three touchdowns? That’s a lot to give away.
Clemson (-6.5) at Virginia Tech | ESPN | 3:30 PM
Matt’s Pick: Clemson got a dose of reality last weekend, but I think this is a bounce-back week. Their playoff chances look incredibly slim, but maybe there’s still a small outside chance they can slip in somehow. For that to happen, they need some giant wins down the stretch. Their season is on the line, and I expect them to play accordingly. Clemson (-6.5).
Ryan’s Pick: If you don’t know who this guy is then you heard about him from me first. Bhayshul Tuten. Google him. Watch this game. Virginia Tech’s running back is the best in the country that nobody is talking about. He always balls out and they like to get him the ball.
Cam Ward’s cousin Kyron Drones is the QB for the Hokies. I like their backfield and I like their chances on Saturday. Give me Virginia Tech (+6.5).
Dean’s Pick: Man, I’m not real confident in this pick, but I will take the Taters. Clemson (-6.5) has looked shakey lately... the end of this season might not be ideal.
South Carolina (-3.5) at Vandy | SECN | 4:10 PM
Matt’s Pick: I’m going to look like a fool here, but I’ll take Carolina. They’re coming off a big win, so classic Carolina drops this game on the road, but I’ll stick with them. They’re getting strong quarterback play, they have an excellent front seven, and they can make things difficult for a less-talented Vandy offense. This one could be tight, but I’ll take the Gamecocks by a touchdown. South Carolina (-3.5).
Ryan’s Pick: I want to pick Vandy. Maybe I should pick Vandy. I just think that South Carolina is really good. The Gamecocks are a few plays way from being a legit playoff contender. It is amazing how some of this stuff plays out. I think the Cocks (-3.5) roll in Nashville. Was that appropriate to say?
Dean’s Pick: Carolina (3-5). Give me the Cocks. They are playing well. Prolly a Top 25 team.
What’s Left of Florida State (+26) at Notre Dame | NBC | 7:30 PM
Matt’s Pick: I refuse to pick Florida State. They’ve all given up. They’re losers. Cancel the season already. Hope the Irish send them packing. They’re playing at a high level and appear to be playing better and better. They have a chance to embarrass FSU at home and I expect them to take full advantage of that. Notre Dame (-26).
Ryan’s Pick: Why are we picking this game? Notre Dame (-26).
Dean’s Pick: Ha! Ryan is so hot and bothered. HOTTOGO! YOU AREN’T TO PICK THE GAMES WE PICK, BOY... JUST PICK THE GAME. Give me the Irish (-26).
BYU (-4) at Utah | ESPN | 10:15 PM
Matt’s Pick: Is this the game where BYU slips up? It’s never easy to play at Utah at night. That’s one hell of an environment and a big reason why this should be a close game. Still, BYU is the better team and they’ll be ready for this massive matchup against the Utes. Utah’s lost four consecutive games. They’re falling apart. They haven’t won a game since late September and they aren’t winning this one. Cougars roll. BYU (-4).
Ryan’s Pick: This week is tough. This is a situation where I would normally take Utah, but guys, they cannot score. The Utes have not scored 20 points since Sep. 21. BYU and Indiana were disrespected by the committee on Tuesday. I think the Cougars (-4) might do some disrespecting on Saturday.
Dean’s Pick: I expect this game to be a big fight. These two are power football teams, and this game matters a lot. I am going to go with Utah (+4) at home.
Alabama (-3) at LSU | ABC | 7:30 PM
Matt’s Pick: Not falling for it. I’m not doing it. Give me the Bayou Bengals in a home night game every time. The Tigers can’t be trusted, but neither can the Tide. LSU’s defense scares me, but with a week to prepare for a mobile quarterback, I expect the Tiger defense to step up and force some Milroe mistakes. This isn’t the same Alabama, and they could easily drop their third game of the season on Saturday night. Give me LSU (+3).
Ryan’s Pick: These are games that Alabama does not lose, but Nick Saban is not around anymore and the Tide has already lost to Vanderbilt and Tennessee this season. Alabama and LSU are not trustworthy teams in terms of picking. I view them about equally to be honest with you. On a neutral field, I think I would pick Bama. This game is going to be played in maybe the harshest regular season environment we will see all season. I will take the Tigahs (+3).
Dean’s Pick: Saban might not be around anymore, but I will take the Tide (-3). LSU is all over the place. Man, I would not want to be the coach of the losing team.
Georgia (-2.5) at Ole Miss | ABC | 3:30 PM
Matt’s Pick: I’m liking Georgia’s chances more and more as the week goes on. I’m not doubting this team on the road. I expect Glenn Schumann to scheme together something that rattles Dart early. They’ll want to push the ball down the field, so Georgia needs to bring different types of pressures all night long to confuse and bait Dart into bad decisions. They’ve got a big challenge defending one of the top offenses in college football, but they’re more than capable enough to get the job done. I expect things to be slow offensively, but if they don’t turn the ball over three times, I like their chances to get around that 30-point mark. If that’s the case, I really like Georgia’s chances. I’m expecting a tight game, but I think Georgia comes out on top. Georgia (-2.5).
Ryan’s Pick: As you know, I don’t like spreads and a lot of sports betting in general. These numbers mean literally nothing to me. I was surprised the line was this small. It makes me feel like I am missing something. Georgia is beating teams by multiple scores and everybody thinks the Dawgs are not playing well. So, what happens when they do play a more complete game or when Carson Beck does not throw multiple interceptions? Oh yeah that’s right, they win big (outside of the Kentucky game). I think Georgia (-2.5) will win by about 10. Ole Miss has a ton of talent and has improved on the ever important defensive line. I don’t think it will be easy for Georgia, but I am counting on a Dawgs win.
Dean’s Pick: It is entirely possible I am overreacting to things here, but Georgia needs to be ready for this moment because it is an important one. Georgia should win this game, but Ole miss is noticeably better on the defensive line. The QB is the same, and the WR will be good. The Rebel run game isn't ideal, and that might not be fun in the rain.
But Ole Miss has shown that it can score, and that it can score really, really fast. That's my pause. Can Ole Miss do what Alabama did in that first half? It seems like that's not impossible. Then again, the situation is quite different, and Georgia should have won that game anyway.
Give me Georgia (-2.5) to cover because I think they'll win.
