ATHENS - We’re just a few days away from Georgia’s massive game against the No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns.

It will be Georgia’s toughest test so far this season, and they’ll need a big performance from quarterback Carson Beck if they want to leave Austin with a win.

Beck is coming off a career game against Mississippi State where he threw for 459 yards and three touchdowns. However, he did throw two INTs that led to 10 points for State.

Those can’t happen in Austin.

Beck needs to bring his “A” game, and that’s exactly what the Texas Longhorns are preparing for. Here’s what Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian had to say about Carson Beck this week:

According to FanDuel, the Atlanta Falcons are 2.5-point favorites over the Seattle Seahawks this weekend.

"Carson Beck I know really well”, Sarkisian said. “He was committed to us at Alabama and ultimately decommitted and went to Georgia. He's a great young man. His father has a military background. He’s a big strong kid, who can make all the throws. He's got a real presence in the pocket.”

“I think they have a scheme that fits him”, Sarkisian added. “They believe in the play-action pass, they believe in the double moves. They're going to take plenty of shots down the field. They utilize the tight end, they utilize the running backs. There's nothing from a throwing game that he really can't do. It's hard to confuse guys when they've played that much football. That's going to be our challenge. How do we disrupt him in the pocket? How can we create a little bit of hesitation in him from a coverage standpoint? Then we're going to have to play really well in tight coverage because he's going to make these throws. They have elite speed on the perimeter. They're built very similar like us, whether it's Arian Smith or Lovett. Those guys can all go. Now you have to guard them and they have an NFL quarterback throwing it to them."

Defending Carson Beck and Georgia’s offense will be a giant challenge for the Texas defense. That group hasn’t played an above-average quarterback all season long.

The best quarterback they’ve played this year? Mississippi State’s Michael Van Buren Jr.

That’s not saying much. Now, they have to try stopping one of the best quarterbacks in college football. And yes, Carson Beck still falls into that category.

If Beck can take care of the football and continue pushing the ball down the field, they’ll put up points. The Longhorn's defense has looked great this year, but again, they haven’t faced an offense anywhere close to Georgia’s.

Michigan’s offense is averaging less than 24 points per game. Oklahoma has a freshman quarterback running for his life. Mississippi State is Mississippi State.

Is Texas ready for a quarterback like Carson Beck? Nobody knows yet, but we’ll find out Saturday night.
