ATHENS - Even against a team like Tennessee Tech, Georgia football coach Kirby Smart learned a lot about his top-ranked team this weekend.

We all learned that as good as this team already is, there’s still plenty of room for improvement. We also learned that the Dawgs should have no problem with a soft Kentucky team on the road next week.

The Wildcats let a South Carolina team that barely squeaked by Old Dominion come into their house and push them around. Over the last decade or so, Kentucky has become a program that plays tough, physical football. However, we saw the complete opposite on Saturday.

Kentucky can’t throw the football, they’re soft up front, and averaged just three yards a carry against the Gamecocks. That’s completely unacceptable. If they can’t move the ball against South Carolina, the Georgia Bulldogs are going to treat them like Tennessee Tech. They’ve got no shot against this Georgia defense. None.

We also learned that Trevor Ettiene is a difference-maker. We learned, even against Tennessee Tech, that his speed, burst, agility, and big-play ability should lead Georgia’s rushing attack for the rest of the season.

According to FanDuel, the Dallas Cowboys have +700 odds to win the NFC Championship this upcoming season.

We also learned that Tennessee might be a problem. Maybe not this year, at least against Georgia, but they’re clearly on the right track. Is Ole Miss better than Tennessee? What about Missouri? Is Miami better than Tennessee? Penn State? USC?

I don’t see it. Tennessee might be the fourth-best team in college football behind Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas. They have a promising quarterback on the rise, a talented roster, and a head coach who appears to know what he’s doing. They’re playing at a high level and are doing it in all phases of the game right now.

We learned that Alabama has to get better on the offensive line. Hell, the entire team needs to get better before Georgia comes to town. They really struggled to run the ball through the first three quarters and ended up with fewer rushing yards than South Florida. That's a problem and one they better fix it quickly. They did have some starters out offensively, but this never should’ve been a fourth-quarter game. No excuses.

We learned that the Auburn Tigers are still frauds. But wait, can you be a “fraud” if you haven’t won anything? Maybe they’re not frauds. Maybe they’re just a bad football program. Maybe they really do enjoy losing to teams they shouldn’t lose to. Losing to Cal-Berkely is completely unacceptable. That should never happen at a place like Auburn, which will always have more talent and resources than a team like Cal. That was an embarrassing loss for Hugh Freeze and the Tigers.

We learned that Texas is a really good team. We learned, I think, that Ohio State is still Georgia’s biggest threat to win a national title.

We learned that Notre Dame will always pee down their leg. After everyone penciled them into the Playoffs for beating A&M in Kyle Field, which isn’t super impressive, they came out and dropped an egg to Nothern Illinois. Funny but not surprising.

We learned that Clemson may not be a bad team after all. In fact, they could win the ACC. They just got clobbered in the second half by the best team in the country to start the season. It happens. Look for Clemson to pick up some momentum week by week as the season moves along.

We learned that the Oregon Ducks aren’t the team we thought they were, almost dropping a game to a stour Boise State team on Saturday night.

More importantly, we learned that this could be another special season for the Georgia Bulldogs in 2024.
