ATHENS - UGA Football continued as the No. 1 football team in the country after the long opening weekend of college football. Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs destroyed No. 14 Clemson 34-3 in Atlanta to start the season.

The start of the college season saw everyone in the AP top ten win opening games except Florida State, which managed to lose twice. It stands to reason to ask if Georgia’s 63-3 win over the Noles in last year’s Orange Bowl has lingered into this season. Florida State lost to Georgia Tech (24-21) and Boston College (28-13) while being a double-digit favorite in both games. FSU went from No. 10 in the nation to not getting a vote from any voter.

UGA’s amount of first-place votes increased from 46 to 57. Only No. 2 Ohio State received any other votes for the top spot. Clemson fell to No. 25 after its 31-point loss to the Dawgs. Georgia Tech snuck into the rankings at No. 23.

Ohio State, Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss all won easily. Oregon struggled to distance itself from lowly Idaho. Notre Dame and Penn State both won tough road games to start the season, and both have easy games this weekend.

The Bulldogs, too, throttle back this week in welcoming Tennessee Tech to Sanford Stadium for a 2 PM kickoff.

This weekend’s biggest clash kicks at noon on Fox as Texas (-7) heads to Michigan for a top ten clash. Tennessee’s matchup with NC State (+7.5) in Charlotte is also a game to watch.

Meanwhile, SEC play gets underway with South Carolina (+10) traveling to the Bluegrass to take on Kentucky. Non-conference showdowns with other Power Four leagues also got the slate. Arkansas (+7.5) heads to Oklahoma State; Cal travels to Auburn (-13.5); Houston (+29.5) plays at Oklahoma; and State goes to the desert to face off with Arizona State (-6.5).

According to FanDuel , Georgia has the best odds to win the national championship this season at +270. Ohio State, who checked in at No. 2 in the rankings, has the second-best odds to win it all at +450.
