ATLANTA - UGA Football opened its 2024 season with a dominant second half performance over the No. 14 Clemson Tigers in the Aflac Kickoff Game. Kirby Smart is now 2-0 in games against Dabo Swinney as a head coach.
Both teams got off to a slow start, but Georgia’s offense started rolling in the third quarter behind touchdowns from transfer wideout Colbie Young and true freshman running back Nate Frazier.
The big news this week was centered around transfer running back and expected starter Trevor Etienne. He ended up serving a one-game suspension.

No Etienne? No problem. Frazier, Branson Robinson and Cash Jones handled the running back duties today for the first-team offense, and Jones was the one that buried Clemson in the fourth quarter with an ultra-impressive 15-yard touchdown run.
This was Jones’ sole carry of the day, and he made the most of it. He also contributed with two catches for 14 yards.
Although Jones delivered the knockout punch, it was the freshman Frazier that dazzled against the Tigers in his collegiate debut. Frazier tallied 83 yards on the ground on just 11 carries. He was by far the more efficient runner when comparing him to Robinson who got the start for the Dawgs.
Frazier also caught one pass for 24 yards in the second half. Fans may fall in love with Frazier immediately, as he paid homage to former Georgia greats with his touchdown celebration. This is not the first time that a true freshman running back has had an excellent showing against Clemson. Gurely and Nick Chubb were standouts in their freshmen season both in general, but especially against Clemson.
Etienne is expected to be back in the mix against Tennessee Tech next week, but against a more-than-solid Clemson defense, the Georgia running back room already looks to be improved from last season.
