ESPN Releases New SEC on ABC College Football Theme

ATHENS - ESPN released the theme music for Southeastern Conference (SEC) games on ABC. The theme music is a throwback to ESPN’s college football theme from the early 2000s.
Watching UGA Football and the rest of the SEC schools on CBS has been a tradition for over 20 years. With new media rights deals in place, all of the big SEC games will now be featured on ABC and ESPN. Fans will hear the new tune as early as this Saturday, when Kirby Smart’s squad takes on the Clemson Tigers in the Aflac Kickoff Game.
The conference’s deal with ESPN was signed a few years ago, and is set to last for the next 10 seasons.
It is not like ESPN is just now featuring SEC schools on its network, but now all of the games will be. ABC and ESPN are under the same parent company, and most of the major SEC games will be broadcasted on ABC.

Huge games, like the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama would have kicked off at 3:30 PM EST on CBS, will all likely be featured on ABC now. Georgia’s matchups against Clemson, Alabama, Kentucky, Florida and Georgia Tech this season have already been scheduled to air on ABC.
One difference is the time slots. CBS’s feature SEC game each week was at 3:30 PM EST every single week. There is more flexibility with ESPN having multiple channels, including the SEC Network, in addition to ABC. The major games will likely kickoff at night as well. Georgia-Bama is set for a primetime kick. Georgia-Clemson is set for a noon kick.
ESPN unveiling the new/old theme song holds significance because the SEC on CBS theme song became a staple- it is nostalgic for many fans. They decided to fight nostalgia with nostalgia by bringing back an old theme.
Here is both the SEC on CBS theme and the new/old SEC on ABC theme that people will now listen to when tuning into the conference’s biggest game of the week.
