ATHENS - It’s clear Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney thinks highly of Kirby Smart and the No.1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
Swinney’s Tigers are looking to take a step forward from their 9-4 season last year, but they’ve got a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on the mighty Bulldogs.
Here’s what Swinney had to say about Georgia during his press conference this week...
Dabo on Georgia...
“It’s certainly going to be a huge challenge in playing a game like this. It’s a great opportunity to play the best team in the country right out the gate. That’s what they are. If anyone doesn’t think they’re the best team in the country, then they haven’t been paying attention. Those guys are really, really good. Kirby (Smart) has done a tremendous job down there and they’ve got a lot of guys back.”
Dabo on Carson Beck...
“They’ve got a Heisman-caliber quarterback. He’s a very good football player. He’s accurate. He’s opportunistic with his legs. He really understands their scheme. They do a great job of making you play assignment football. He’s a great vertical thrower which puts a lot of pressure on you.
On Georgia’s offensive line and skill players...
“As far as their offensive line goes, there’s probably none better in the country. This is a really, really talented group with a lot of experience. They’ve got big, strong backs and a lot of skill on the edges. Arian Smith, a guy we recruited, is as fast as we’ll see this year. He can really stretch the field. They’re a complete group on that side of the ball.”
On Georgia’s physicality...
“They’ve lost two games in three years partly because they’re a very physical football team on both sides of the ball.”

On Georgia’s defense...
“On the defensive side, they’re big, long, athletic, physical, and they’ve got pass-rushers. If you live in 3rd and long on these guys, it’s a really tall task.”
On Malaki Starks and “new faces”...
“They have one of the best safeties you’ll find in the country in 24 (Malaki Starks). They’re Georgia. They have some new faces, but they all look the same. They can all run, they’re all strong. There’s not a lot of room for error with these guys. That’s why they’re the No. 1 team in the country. You’ve got to play well right out of the gate to have a chance to win a game like this. You’ve also got to win your battles up front.”
On Oscar Delp...
They’ve got Oscar Delp at tight end. He’s another kid we recruited. He’s a great player. He made a bunch of plays for them last year.
On Trevor Etienne...
“Hes’ fast and explosive. He’s more similar to Travis than he’s not. He breaks tackles. He’s got speed. He may be a little thicker than Travis was at that stage of his career.
