ATHENS - There is one big mystery heading into No. 1 UGA Football’s matchup with Clemson Tigers in the Aflac Kickoff Game:

Is transfer running back and presumed starter Trevor Etienne going to suit up for the Dawgs in the opening game, or will he be suspended due to his DUI charge (among other charges) back in March- a charge that was ultimately dropped over the summer?

It is a question that Kirby Smart has not answered yet.

ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel was a guest on the network’s College Football Live on Tuesday, and he made comments, albeit a little vague, suggesting that Etienne will serve a one-game suspension.

“The headline is that Trevor Etienne is facing a one-game suspension,” Thamel said. “He got arrested in March on DUI charges. Under Georgia Athletic Department policy, he is expected to miss one game.”

Yes, a little vague, but Thamel is essentially reporting that Etienne is not going to play. He also goes into more detail, calling Branson Robinson the expected starter for the matchup against Dabo Swinney’s squad.

“His backup, Rod Robinson, is also expected to miss a couple weeks with a toe injury,” Thamel said. “That means we’re gonna see some new faces at tailback for the Dawgs. Branson Robinson, kind of a bruising sophomore running back, is expected to get the start. And he’ll be backed up by a true freshman Nate Frazier.”

Smart has refused to comment on the situation and has been asked about it multiple times. He was most recently asked on Monday.

“I don't really talk about any of the other stuff in regards to any of our players with suspensions,” Smart said.

Signs are pointing towards Etienne being out for this game and Branson Robinson receiving the starting work. This has turned into a talking point and a mystery due to the fact that his charges were dropped, a situation that leaves this up in the air to the general public.
