ATHENS - Week 0 in college football is upon us, which means UGA Football will be suiting up in less than two weeks.

Kirby Smart and Dabo Swinney’s squads will face off in the Aflac Kickoff Game on Aug 31. Georgia released one of probably a few more hype videos to come as the beginning of the season inches closer. This one was titled “The Standard.”

Smart has repeatedly roped in “the standard” into the many mantras he dishes out to both the teams and the public. He talks about upholding the standard and oftentimes says “the standard is the standard.”

In the video, a handful of Georgia players discuss the standard:

“Every year, as we continue to grow, the standard is always the standard and it keeps raising every single year,” Carson Beck said. “I need to get better by one percentage point each and  every day.”

“If you see it then you won’t forget it,” Tate Ratledge said. “We kind of own that is what’s important here and that’s what is gonna keep us there.”

“Coming out no. 1 and being the only one standing in the standard. The standard is to win and beat any opponent,” Arian Smith said.

“The standard was here at Georgia well before I got here,” Smael Mondon said. “Helping teach the young guys that so it can go on from class to class…”

Georgia is coming out in 2024 as the top team just as it did in 2023, and in a sense, Georgia did not uphold the standard last season. If the standard is to be the best, the team fell short of that title when it lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship. 2024 will be a chance to correct that.
