ATHENS - With two weeks left before the start of the Early Signing Day period, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs land another commitment from an impressive in-state defender.

This time it’s four-star, Chase Linton‍.

A former Rutgers commitment, this North Atlanta (GA) EDGE defender was offered by Georgia on July 28th and his interest in the mighty in-state program quickly grew. Linton decommitted from Rutgers on August 17th and then took an official visit to Georgia the weekend of October 5th.

Now, the Bulldogs have landed his commitment, beating out rival Georgia Tech for the long, athletic 6-foot-4 220-pounder.

According to FanDuel, the Pittsburgh Steelers have +950 odds to win the AFC Championship this fall.

What will Linton bring to Athens?

Length and potential.

This young man has a long, lean frame and explodes off the snap. He lived in the backfield last season, blowing up plays behind the line of scrimmage and attacking the quarterback on a consistent basis.

As a junior, he didn’t always play against the best competition, as many times he went unblocked into the backfield, but the raw talent, burst, and potential are easy to see.

Physically, Linton has a frame that should allow him to continue adding more muscle and mass over the next few years. He’s someone who will only get bigger, and possibly faster and more explosive, working in Georgia's strength and conditioning program.

Linton’s made several eye-opening, drive-killing stops in the backfield over the years, dragging the ball carrier down like a rag-doll. He’s lightning quick off the snap, and if not blocked correctly, will make an easy play five yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Dawg Post saw him live against North Forsyth in early October, and Linton was active, played with aggression, and made his presence known throughout the ballgame. His burst, high motor, and natural length should allow him to develop nicely over the next several years.

His best football is still way ahead of him, and that’s good news for Glenn Schumann, outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe, and the rest of the Georgia Bulldog defensive staff.

Linton is currently ranked as the No. 10 EDGE defender and the No. 107 overall prospect in the 2025 class.

He gives Georgia their third EDGE commitment, joining 5-star Isaiah Gibson‍ and 4-star Darren Ikinnagbon‍ on the commit list. The Bulldogs now have 26 commitments in the 2025 class.
