ATLANTA - The Atlanta and South Fulton area is loaded with talent right now, and that’s where Georgia went to land their latest verbal commitment in the 2025 class.

Over the weekend, Stacy Searels landed massive Westlake (GA) left tackle, Juan Gaston‍, one of the very best players not only around Atlanta, but across the country.

The 6-foot-7 350-pounder brings a level of athleticism you rarely see for someone his size, and he’s been starting for a proud Westlake program since he was a freshman.

Dawg Post caught up with Westlake head coach Morris Mitchell to get the latest on Gaston’s talent.

“Juan’s bending is top-tier”, Mitchell told Dawg Post. “I’ve never seen a kid that big be able to bend as well as he does. “I see him in a front squat and overhead squat and he’s getting his bottom to his calf muscle. That’s special. He’s able to bend and move and really run. He’s one of the best athletes on our team.”

“He’s the total package” Mitchell added. “He hasn’t given up a sack in two years. He likes to pin people down. He’s likes to down-block and pull in the run game. He really does have all the tools, he just needs to continue developing. He’s a gentle giant who needs to keep turning the knob, and one day he’ll break that knob on the field.”

Gaston is a quiet young man. He’s soft-spoken. He’s locked in. He’s become more vocal with his teammates over time, but he’s absolutely more of a “lead by example” type.

“He’s a humble kid with a gentle spirit”, Mitchell said. “He comes in every day and does his job. That’s the type of leadership that he provides.”

According to FanDuel, the Georgia Bulldogs have +280 odds to win the 2024 national championship this upcoming season.

How good is Gaston Jr.?

“I think he’s a generational type of player,” Mitchell said. “I think he’s the No. 1 offensive lineman in the country. I’ve never seen a kid that big, that fast, be able to dunk a basketball the way he does, and power-clean 300-pounds with ease. He’s a top-tier talent that you don’t see come through South Fulton very often.”

Gaston plays in one of the more talented regions not only in Georgia, but across the country. He’s lining up against D1 defender on a weekly basis against teams like Carrollton, Douglas County, Langston Hughes, among others.

Searles was high on Gaston from the start. Georgia’s offensive line coach clearly wants to bring in size, and that’s exactly what Gaston brings to the table. He plays left tackle for Westlake, but there’s a good chance he’ll get a strong look on the interior once he gets to Athens. The Dawgs do have three other interior offensive line commits, so out of everyone, Gaston might be the one who gets the strongest look at tackle.

Gaston is ranked as the No.14 interior offensive line prospect and the No. 187 overall prospect in the 2025 class.
