ATHENS - Is 2024 the year for Georgia Bulldog receiver, Arian Smith?

One of the fastest and most explosive players in college football, Smith has made a handful of massive catches for the Bulldog program over the last several years. He’s a guy the staff has always been high on, and he’ll continue to give Georgia’s game-changing speed this fall.

Smith is an experienced veteran now who spoke with the media on Thursday to kick off fall practice:

On his leadership role on the team…

“I feel like I just had to step into that category and just be that person for my teammates because we have a lot of young guys. Losing Marcus and losing Ladd, I became the last one in that class. I’ve been here for a while, so I know the ins and outs of the program. I know what to do, what the standard is and how to win.”

On returning for another fall camp…

“It definitely hit me. It’s year five. I’m excited regardless of what year it is. I’m excited. I love the sport, so I’d do it 100 times if I could. I’m excited.”

On Coach James Coley…

“I love Coach Coley. Coach Coley and I actually had a connection before he actually took the job and came here. I remember he texted me. He was like ‘You’re not going to believe it. They gave me the job.’ I was so excited. He gave me a phone call like 10 minutes later, but he recruited me back in 2019 when I was a recruit. I’d go on visits, and he’d always talk to me and recruit me as a high school student. We had a connection before he actually became my coach, so we just like stitched it back together. It didn’t take long to get used to his coaching because I remember how he was as a coach when I was a recruit.”

Kirby Smart’s expectations for Arian Smith...

“Well, I think Arian has reached his potential. I mean, he's a guy that every time we've needed him to make big plays, he's made a bunch of big plays. I don't think a lot of the health, he can control that. There's some things you can control, some things you can't. Most of the injuries he's had have occurred by circumstance or collisions, so I'm very pleased with where he is. I'm excited of the leadership he showed in that room spring through the summer, and even now he's much more confident in himself, and I think he feels like he and Dillon Bell and Dominic (Lovett) are the leaders in that room, and I'm excited to see what he can do with it."

Since 2020, Smith has caught 20 career passes for 539 yards and six touchdowns, averaging an eye-opening 26.9 yards per catch.
