ATHENS - UGA Football coach Kirby Smart and Travaris Robinson continue to add promising defensive backs to the commit list.

This time it’s four-star safety Rashad Johnson‍ who jumps on board, giving the Dawgs another playmaking defender in the secondary. This is also Georgia’s third defensive back commitment in the last seven days, joining four-stars Shamari Earls‍ and Jaylan Morgan‍.

A Florida native out of South Sumner High School, Johnson stands at 6-foot-2 200-pounds and took his official visit to Georgia the weekend of June 14th. He took an official visit to Texas A&M the following weekend, but in the end, Johnson wasn’t turning down a chance to play in Athens.

In the end, Johnson chose Georgia over Penn State, Texas A&M, and Louisville.

According to FanDuel, the Baltimore Ravens are 3-point underdogs to the Kansas City Chiefs in week one of the NFL football season.

What is Georgia getting in Johnson?

Size, potential, and natural instincts.

At 6-foot-2 185-pounds, Johnsons brings a lengthy frame and strong instincts against the run. He dissects plays quickly from his safety spot and can get down-hill in a hurry to help stop the run in the trenches. He is also capable and quick enough to take the correct angle to chase down running backs trying to get to the perimeter. He brings respectable speed for his size as he’s clocked a recent 11.1 time in the 100-meter.

He’s a sure-tackling safety whose length also helps him in coverage. He covers a lot of ground and knows how to close quickly on receivers when the ball is in the area. He’s a max-effort defensive back who plays hard and has the potential to excel in zone coverage at the next level. He’s smart, instinctive, and knows how to deliver a big hit behind his pads.

A versatile prospect with above-average athleticism, Johnson also made an impact on offense, hauling in nine passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, he made 59 tackles in 2023 as a junior with six TFLs, seven pass-breakups, one INT, one forced fumble, and one sack.

He’s ranked as the No. 32 safety and the No. 361 overall prospect in the country for the 2025 class.
