ATHENS - After losing out on four-star target CJ Wiley‍ (for now), Kirby Smart and James Coley made a quick recovery at wide receiver, landing a commitment from four-star Tyler Williams, one of the fastest-rising pass-catchers in the Sunshine State.

Williams was in Athens for a big official visit last weekend, and with the green light to jump on board, Williams has made the decision to commit to Georgia over schools like Miami, UCF, among others.

Williams quickly recapped his Georgia official visit with Dawg Post earlier this week.

"My favorite part was meeting with what could be my future coaches and talking about my future. Their pitch was that they can fully develop me and get me to the NFL while winning championships.”

What is Georgia getting in Williams?

Production and big play ability.

Williams didn’t catch a lot of passes, but he made the most out of every single one. This young man has more than enough size at 6-foot-1 195-pounds with deceptive speed. He can take off down the field and is tough to run down from behind.

As a junior, Williams caught 26 passes for 585 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging an eye-opening 22.5 yards per catch. He also took five returns back for touchdowns on special teams, ending his season with over 1,000 all-purpose yards.

A vertical weapon, Williams does a good job of tracking the ball in the air and putting himself in a position to run underneath it and secure it tightly in coverage. He’s also a threat to make plays in the screen and short passing game with his ability to elude defenders and out-run defensive backs down the field.

Again, when the ball comes his way, good things happen. He’s a sure-handed receiver who is a threat to score anytime he has the ball. Now that he’s at Armwood (FL), Williams should see more passes come his way compared to last year at Sumner High. Still, Williams was able to light up the stat sheet as much as he could and took advantage of every opportunity that came his way.

No matter where you play, averaging 22.5 yards a catch and scoring 15 touchdowns on just 26 catches is a remarkable feat.

He can run, jump, catch, and find ways to get open. He’s a versatile receiver who can line up on the perimeter, or play in the slot and work the middle of the field. He’s a fluid runner who can create separation, and it led to big plays all season long last year.

Not landing CJ Wiley was a tough pill to swallow, but make no mistake, Tyler Williams can absolutely play at Georgia, and he’s earned the opportunity to jump on board.

He’s currently ranked as the No. 49 prospect in Florida, the No. 56 WR prospect, and the No. 361 overall prospect in the country.
