ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldog staff had a giant list of official visitors in town this weekend, and it appears they made a lot of progress with one of the top defensive back prospects in the South.

That would be four-star cornerback, Chris Ewald‍.

The Chaminade-Madonna Prep (FL) defender is a former Michigan commitment who sources say has been trending heavily towards Miami over the last few months.

That was before a big official visit to Athens this weekend. Now, Ewald has a big decision to make. It’s clear Georgia impressed him over the weekend, and he made sure to break down his visit with Dawg Post.

“Meeting with Coach Donate and just learning calls and understanding how they study, take notes, and prepare really stood out to me”, Ewald said. “He also broke down my film from high school and camps and showed me my flaws. He showed me how he could make me a better player and break my bad habits. He showed me how Ellis (Robinson) was when he came in and how he ended spring.”

According to FanDuel, the San Francisco 49ers have +600 odds to win the Super Bowl next season.

What was Georgia’s pitch to the impressive 6-foot-0 170-pounder?

“The pitch was to continue to be elite and play for an elite program. Everything they preach is elite and it shows in the results.”

When does Ewald plan to make a commitment?

“I’m supposed to commit this Thursday but I may push it back to really make sure that I’m making the best decision. UGA really set the bar with this visit.”

As a prospect, Ewald brings an impressive frame, natural instincts in coverage, and excellent closing speed. He runs well, shows smooth hips, and an impressive vertical, allowing him to jump and make plays on the football. He defends the sideline well and does a good job of staying with bigger receivers on the outside. Against the run, Ewald showed he’s a strong tackler who can make a play in the open field.

In coverage, the South Florida defender plays with confidence and knows how to separate the ball from the receiver. He has a frame that will allow him to add even more mass and muscle which will help him get off blocks and attack the ball carrier. The talent is easy to see, and it’s clear the Georgia staff made quite an impression on him this weekend.

As a junior last fall, Ewald made 45 tackles, two INTs, and 20 pass deflections for his Chaminade-Madonna Prep team.

Ewald is ranked as the No. 20 CB prospect, the No. 23 prospect in Florida, and the No. 162 overall prospect in the country for the 2025 class.
