ATHENS - New UGA football quarterback Jaden Rashada is suing Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier and a University of Florida football booster for fraud over an NIL (Name, image and likeness) deal.

First reported by ESPN, the claim is that Napier and the booster backed out of a $13.85 million agreement with Rashada. The quarterback claims that he backed out of other offers from schools due to this agreement.

Just weeks after Rashada announced his commitment to Georgia through the transfer portal, he is now in a legal battle with his new team’s rival.

These are unchartered waters, as is much of the case in college football right now. This is the first time that a player has sued a school due to an NIL disagreement.

According to FanDuel, the Boston Celtics are 7.5-point favorites to defeat the Indiana Pacers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

In addition to just backing out of the deal, ESPN reports that on Dec. 21, 2022 when Rashada filed his letter of intent to Florida that his father was supposed to receive a million-dollar payout on that day. The lawsuit states that the payout never happened.

Rashada was released from his letter of intent in February on 2023, and he later committed to Arizona State where he played for one year before transferring to Georgia.

Kirby Smart and UGA have yet to make any statement on the matter.
