ATHENS - Kirby Smart and new running backs coach Josh Crawford will have 5-star running back on campus this week.

That would be elite sophomore, Savion Hiter‍. A tackle-breaking machine at 5-foot-11 200-pounds out of Woodberry Forest (NC), Hiter is a fluid runner who runs with some power. He’s got a nasty stiff arm and sure doesn’t run like your average sophomore running back. He runs with authority but has plenty of quickness and change of direction.

He’s fast, but he’s not a burner. Still, he’s tough to run down from behind. He can break off long runs, but his ability to bounce off tackles and pick up yards after contact makes him one of the very best across the nation, regardless of class.

Hiter confirmed to Dawg Post this week that he has two more unofficial visits to make this month, with one being to Georgia on March 12. He’s fresh off a visit to Clemson and has another visit scheduled to Ohio State on March 30th.

Former Bulldog running backs coach Dell McGee first offered Hiter 13 months ago, and that offer put Georgia towards the top of Hiter’s list.

“Georgia’s definitely high on my list!” Hiter told Dawg Post back on January 29th. With McGee running the show at Georgia State, the Dawgs can stay in the race, and even climb Hiter’s list, with a successful visit with Josh Crawford this week in Athens.

With Crawford’s running back board wide open at the moment in the 2025 class, getting the best of the best in the 2026 class on campus is a big deal.

As a junior last fall, Hiter totaled 1,187 yards (1060 rushing, 91 receiving, 36 returning) with 11 touchdowns. On the ground, Hiter rushed 150 times and averaged 7.1 yards per attempt while rushing for 117 yards a game.

He’s ranked as the No. 1 RB prospect and the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2026 class.
