ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have landed a massive commitment from one of the nation’s top prospects.
After signing the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle, the Dawgs continue to add elite prospects in the 2025 class with the addition of 5-star defensive tackle, Elijah Griffin.
Ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect in the country, Griffin is an elite defender at 6-foot-4 290-pounds out of Savannah Christian (GA) who earned his Bulldog offer over four years ago back on September 15th, 2020. He’s been a priority target from the very beginning for the Georgia staff as they were the first program to extend an offer to the playmaking defensive tackle.
Now, Smart and assistant coach Tray Scott have Griffin on the commit list.
A prospect several opposing coaches have called a “game-changer”, Griffin chose the Bulldogs over Miami and USC in the end. He’s ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the state and is coming off a dominant junior season where he made 97 tackles, 31 TFLs, 17.5 sacks, and a pick-6.

Griffin on Georgia...
“There was an electric atmosphere every time I went to Athens. It’s a wonderful place to be besides football. it felt like home every time I went up! I love how the coaches interact with their players and how they have a connection.”
“I love coach Tray Scott to death. He comes from a great family and he tries to instill what he was taught into his his recruits. He’s just a genuine person who loves to win, that’s why he’s a two-time national champion. He also wants guys that can deliver and execute.”
What will Griffin bring to Athens?
As a prospect, Griffin is a strong athlete for his size who can rush the passer from the interior, clog running lanes between the tackles, and even make a play on the football. He does a great job of using his quick, strong hands to shed blocks and make plays in the backfield.
He’s big, physical, and at times can be lightning-quick off the snap. He lived in the backfield last year, and when he gets to the ball carrier, he knows how to wrap up and make a sound tackle. He gets into the backfield with ease and has been one of the best players in the Savannah area for the last four years.
He flashes big-play potential and makes it look easy. He can blow up any particular play, and if he can do it consistently, he’ll have a great career in Athens. The Bulldogs are looking to load up on the defensive line, and they’ve now landed one of the best in Griffin.
.As a senior this season, Griffin has made 33 tackles, 17 TFLs and six sacks.
