ATHENS - The dead period is over, and that means Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs were able to host some top targets on campus this weekend.

After signing the No. 1 class in the 2024 cycle, Smart and the Dawgs made sure to host some major in-state targets on campus on Saturday.

The peach-state is loaded with elite talent, and the Dawgs are off to a great start with some of the state’s best.

The Bulldogs have six current commitments in the 2025 class, and each play in Georgia. Of those six, Dawg Post confirmed that five of them were in Athens this weekend, including both tight end commitments in 5-star TE Elyiss Williams‍ and 4-star TE Ethan Barbour‍.

Williams, who plays at Camden County, is ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect in the country and the No. 4  prospect in Georgia. As a junior this past season, Williams caught 25 passes for 530 yards and seven touchdowns.

As for Barbour, the four-star from Alpharetta is ranked as the No. 189 prospect in the country and the No. 25 prospect in Georgia. He caught 49 passes for 966 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Right now, the Detroit Lions are 6.5-point underdogs to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game this weekend according to FanDuel.

Two five-star defenders who made it to town were Elijah Griffin‍ (Savannah Christian Prep) and Justus Terry‍ (Manchester). Griffin is ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect in the country and is coming off a dominant junior season where he made 97 tackles, 31 TFLs, and 17.5 sacks. Terry, ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect nationally in the 2025 class. Last fall, Terry made 78 tackles and 13 sacks.

Terry is already on the commit list, and sources say the Bulldogs sit in an excellent position right now for Williams.

A top wide receiver target in town was Westlake (GA) playmaker Travis Smith Jr.‍ An impressive pass-catcher from Atlanta, Smith Jr. is ranked as the No. 153 overall prospect and the No. 19 prospect in Georgia for the 2025 class. The 6-foot-4 195-pounder caught 53 passes for 892 yards and 11 touchdowns. Sources say Georgia sits in an excellent position for the playmaking receiver right now. He’s one to keep a close eye on.

Another in-state receiver in town was Milton (GA) standout, CJ Wiley‍. Helping lead the Eagles to a 7A state championship last year, Wiley showed why he’s one of the most productive receivers in the state as he caught 68 passes last fall for 1,473 yards and 14 touchdowns. He’s a receiver to know about this off-season.

An out of state defender to keep an eye on is 4-star EDGE, Bryce Davis‍. The 6-foot-4 240-pounder our of Grimsley (NC) was hurt for most of the 2023 season, but the Georgia staff has still made him feel like a wanted man in Athens.

“I still feel like a top priority for them, especially after I got injured this past season they were one of the schools that still recruited me really heavy and still made me feel like a priority. Something I won’t forget for sure!”

Davis is ranked as the No. 80 overall prospect in the country for the 2025 class and the No. 4 prospect in North Carolina.

Another in-state prospect in town was 4-star DB Jontae Gilbert‍. One of the top defensive back prospects in Georgia and across the South for the 2025 class, Gilbert is an Atlanta native with impressive length and ball skills at 6-foot-1 180-pounds. He’s ranked as the No. 30 overall prospect in the country and the No. 6 overall prospect in Georgia for the 2025 class.

Other visitors include 2025 RB commit Bo Walker‍ and Alabama OL commit Mason Short‍.
