ATHENS - The exodus from Alabama may have already begun.  Kirby Smart and UGA football are adding a former Alabama player to the Dawgs’ 2024 roster.

Former Buford defensive back Jake Pope is transferring to Georgia from Alabama. The news of the move through the transfer portal broke Friday nigh after the Bulldogs’ long day recruiting in Georgia.

Pope signed with the Tide before the 2022 season, but didn’t play that fall. In 2023, Pope was a reserve player for Alabama. Pope is the Bulldogs’ sixth addition through the NCAA transfer portal.

The move comes two days after the retirement of Alabama coach Nick Saban. Pope entered the transfer portal on Sunday.
