UGA Football Fans Celebrate Going into the 4th Q vs. FSU by Lighting Up Hard Rock Stadium

MIAMI GARDENS - Kirby Smart and UGA football have some of the best fans in America - and the proved it Saturday at the Orange Bowl by lighting up Hard Rock Stadium.

HALFTIME NOTES:

*Summary Of The Offense: At the half, the Bulldogs posted 383 yards of total offense on 35 plays to build a 42-3 advantage.

*Georgia’s 39-point first half lead is an Orange Bowl record and school bowl record.

*Georgia’s 35-point outburst in the 2nd quarter was a Bulldog bowl record, the previous mark was 21 twice (2006 Sugar Bowl vs West Virginia and 2023 CFP National Championship Game vs TCU. The 42 points in a half was a Bulldog bowl record.

*The Bulldogs are 5-for-5 in the Red Zone with 5 TDs. The Bulldogs had four rushing TDs and two receiving TD in the first half.

*Senior RB Kendall Milton was the leading rusher with 104 yards on nine carries (11.6 avg.) with 2 TDs. He had the game’s first two TDs, a 15-yarder and then a 5-yarder. 

*Georgia took a 7-0 lead with 4:05 left in the 1st, going 69 yards on seven plays in 2:40, capped by a Kendall Milton 15-yard run. 

*The Bulldogs went up 14-0 with 14:57 in the 2nd, going 82 yards on six plays in 1:56 as Milton ran in for a score from five yards out.

*Georgia made it 21-3 with 10:38 left in the first half, going 75 yards on four plays in 156 as Daijun Edwards capped it with a 15-yard run.

*The Bulldogs extended the lead to 28-3 on a 27-yard rushing TD by Ladd McConkey. It was a one-play drive in 13 seconds.

*Georgia made it 35-3 with a 12-yard completion to junior Arian Smith from Beck. It capped a five play, 62-yard drive in 2:20.

*The Bulldogs went up 42-3 on a four play, 51-yard drive in 23 seconds following a turnover. Dominic Lovett caught a 2-yard TD.

*Coming in today, Georgia ranked ninth nationally in Scoring Offense at 38.4 points a game.

 

*A Look At Beck: At the half, junior QB Carson Beck was 13-for-19 for 203 yards and 2 TDs in directing Georgia to a 42-3 lead. 

*With 203 yards, Beck moved up to 2nd in single season history for passing yards with 3,941 yards, passing Aaron Murray (3,893 in 2012). 

*Sophomores Dillon Bell (4 rec., 84 yards) and Oscar Delp (3 rec., 31 yards) were the leading receivers. Georgia got TD catches from juniors Arian Smith and Dominic Lovett.

 

*Defensive Review: At the half, FSU finished with 185 yards of total offense on 41 plays and scored three points.

*Coming in today, Georgia ranked ninth nationally in Scoring Defense, allowing just 16.6 points a game.

*FSU was 2-for-9 on 3rd Downs as the Bulldogs came in today leading the nation with opponents converting just 26% of the time on 3rd Downs.

*FSU cut it to 14-3 with a 22-yard field goal, going 71 yards on six plays. The big play in the drive was a 55-yard reception by Kentron Poitier that gave them a first-and-goal at the 3, and the Bulldogs held them to a FG.

*Sophomore Mykel Williams registered a sack/forced fumble and fumble recovery with 49 seconds left in the first half. He now has 4.5 sacks on the year. It was his first career caused fumble and fumble recovery. It led to a TD. Also to end the first half, sophomore Malaki Starks had an INT, his third this year.

*At the half, the leading tacklers were freshman CJ Allen with five while Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams had four apiece.

 

 *A Look At The Special Teams: Freshman PK Peyton Woodring tallied 6 points, going 6-for-6 on PATs. He now has 131 points this season, which ranks tied for third in school history (Billy Bennett in 2003).

*Early in the 2nd quarter, Georgia forced a fumble (Cash Jones) on a kickoff, and it was recovered by Cole Speer. It led to a TD one play later and a 28-3 edge. It was the fifth forced fumble and second recovered by the Bulldogs this year. The Bulldogs are +2 in Turnover Margin.

*Sophomore P Brett Thorson did not punt in the first half. Junior Jared Zirkel handled the kickoffs.

*Freshman Anthony Evans III had one punt return for 17 yards.

 

*Captains, Coin Toss and For Starters: Senior Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint (WR) and juniors Sedrick Van Pran (C), Javon Bullard (S) and Kamari Lassiter (DB) served as the game captains. UGA won the toss and elected to defer. Van Pran made his team-leading 44th career start while freshman Raylen Wilson (ILB) made his first career start.

               

*Honoring #77 Devin Willock: Senior Xavier Truss (RT), normally #73, wore #77 today in honor of his late teammate Devin Willock. A different Bulldog offensive lineman has worn #77 each game this season.

We've Gone Streaking

The Bulldogs have extended the nation's longest active bowl streak to 27 consecutive years this season. Georgia has won its last six bowl/CFP appearances.

The Bulldogs are 45-2 in their last 47 games including back-to-back national championships.

Georgia will enter 2024 on a school record streak of 39 consecutive regular season victories that dates to a 31-24 home triumph over Miss. State on Nov. 21, 2020. That's the longest streak in the FBS.

Georgia will enter 2024 having won a school and SEC record-tying 27 regular season SEC games in a row dating to a 31-24 win over Miss. State on Nov. 21, 2020.

Georgia will enter 2024 with a school record 25-game home winning streak, which leads in FBS.

The Bulldogs have won 15 straight games in an opponent's home stadium and that leads in FBS.

Bulldogs Honored With A Pair Of National Awards

Two Georgia standouts were honored with national awards on Dec. 8:

Junior TE Brock Bowers earned his second consecutive Mackey Award for being the nation's top collegiate tight end. This marks the first time that the Mackey has been given to the same recipient twice. Bowers is the team leader in catches (56), yards receiving (714) and touchdown catches (six) in only 10 games played for the 12-1 Bulldogs this season.
