ATHENS - The bye week is over now for UGA Football, and the Florida Gators are on deck as the first opponent in a month-long onslaught for Georgia.
On Monday, Kirby Smart highlighted how physical of a matchup this always is for the Bulldogs. It is a physical game, and Georgia has not escaped the negative outcomes of that. Injuries have been one of the bigger challenges for Georgia in 2023, and the injury bug did not exclude the ‘Dawgs’ (and college football’s) best player.
The Brock Bowers headlines have died down, but Smart was asked about him and a slew of other players on Monday. What updates did Smart give about some of the injured Georgia Bulldogs?
Brock Bowers
It was already common knowledge that Bowers will miss at least a few weeks after undergoing ankle surgery last week. That did not stop his name from being brought up during the Florida-week presser.
Bowers has still been around the program despite the recent sprain and surgery.
“Yeah, Brock has been at walk-throughs. He has been out there with the team, some of this last week, some of it different times,” Smart said.
Kendall Milton
Kendall Milton has been banged up dating back to the spring. Against Vanderbilt, he dinged his MCL, but the verbiage around it has been positive.
This is what Smart said on Monday:
“Kendall (Milton) was good last week. He pushed through. Did a good job. We'll see where he is today.”
Milton provides much needed depth and talent in what has been a depleted backfield this season.
Roderick Robinson
Another guy that applies to the above statement is Roderick Robinson. The true freshmen has not played since Sep. 16 against South Carolina due to an ankle sprain. With Daijun Edwards out to begin the season, Robinson was Georgia’s leading rusher during the first two weeks of the season.
It sounds like Robinson will be able to suit up against Florida as Smart said that, during practice last week, he was “able to go.”
Tate Ratledge
“Tate( Ratledge)had an elbow coming out of the Vanderbilt game, but he's been fine,” Smart said.
Amarius Mims and Xavier Truss
Smart was asked about Xavier Truss and Amarius Mims at the same time, so he gave a joint answer for their status.
When Mims went out against the Gamecocks, it was Truss who moved over from left guard to right tackle to replace mims. Truss then suffered an ankle sprain against Vanderbilt, and true freshman Monroe Freeling subbed in for him.
Here is what Smart said about Truss and Mims, who are both questionable for the Florida game at this point in time:
“Find out a lot more today. They both were able to do some different things last week in the off week and a lot of rehab, a lot of maintenance, a lot of getting back. But until I see them out there today I probably wouldn't be a good judge to be able to tell.”
