ATHENS -  In what looked like a gloomy situation for UGA Football before, the injury report is not as it was a few weeks ago.

Kirby Smart seemed to be in positive spirits in relation to Georgia’s injury situation on Monday. The only player that was noticeably injured on Saturday’s convincing win over Kentucky was Sedrick Van Pran, who returned to the game after sitting on the sidelines for a short period of time.

Smart discussed the status of a couple of players and included more details about where Amarius Mims is at in his recovery from his ankle sprain and the tightrope surgery he received on it.

Amraius Mims

Amrius Mims suffered a pretty bad ankle sprain in the first half of the South Carolina game. Since then, Xavier Truss has moved over to right tackle in his place and Dylan Fairchuld has been starting at left guard.

Mims underwent tightrope surgery to repair his ankle, which is a procedure Georgia is familiar with, most recently with freshman tight end Lawson Luckie. If he follows a similar timeline as Luckie, Mims could be back in just a few weeks, but everybody is different.

Smart said that while there is not a specific game they are targeting him back for, Mims is where they need him to be in terms of recovery. Here’s what Smart said:

“No goal. No goal. It's really about where he is. The timeline, if we're lucky, would put him around there (the Florida game), but he may not be the exact same as Lawson. Lawson is a skill position that requires more cutting and things like that. We've ordered a special shoe for Amarius, and plan to use it. We used that with Andrew Thomas and several other kids on the offensive line that have had ankle injuries. But we don't put a timeline on it just for that reason. It could be before. It could be after. It's based on his progression of how he feels when he starts moving around and what he does.”

Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins

Ingram-Dawkins has missed the entire 2023 season so far with a “navicular foot issue.” The redshirt sophomore has been seen on the sidelines with a boot on his foot and a scooter.

There is not a timetable for his return. Here is what Smart said on Monday:

“Yeah. As I talked about before, he's dealing with a foot injury. It's a significant injury. He's had a four-week shutdown. I think we'll be on five. He's going to start doing a little more next week, more being jogging and what I call weight bearing, not necessarily practice. So we have a plan, and we have stages, and he's hit all the markers. So, yeah, we're hopeful to get him back this year, but when that'll be, I don't know. We're going to do what the doctors say.”
