ATHENS - UGA Football has not been healthy this season.

Kirby Smart‘s group has had players go in and out all season. This is something that has now improved a little bit.

Three important starters returned to serious action on Saturday against Auburn after missing at least the week prior.

Mykel Williams returned from his illness. Javon Bullard returned from his ankle sprain suffered against Ball State. Ladd McConkey made his first appearance of the season after missing the first month with back issues.

Things were a lot gloomier the two weeks prior in terms of the injury list- the longest list since Smart took over in Athens. Georgia is still without Amarius Mims for the time being, but the Bulldogs were a lot closer to full strength against Auburn.

Smart gave some updates on a few players, and more commentary on McConkey’s status. How healthy are the Georgia Bulldogs?

Ladd McConkey

McConkey made his season debut in Georgia’s 27-20 win over Auburn. He played limited snaps, but not insignificant ones. He hauled in four catches for 38 yards, with a couple of those being third down conversions. Brock Bowers is the only person who caught more balls from Carson Beck on Saturday than McConkey.

His back issue has been an off and on injury for a while, and Smart was asked about the worry of it resurfacing in the future. This is all that Smart had to offer to that:

“Yeah, no clue. We don't know if it's going to come back. I don't know. I just know the medical advice we got was to shut him down. We did that. He feels like he's recovered. He feels good. He had to progress last week to the point of full speed. Didn't bother him. So I was pleased with that part of it. He wants to be out there. The biggest thing for him now is the conditioning level and all.”

Kendall Milton

Milton has been dealing with a hamstring injury since fall camp. Like McConkey, Milton has dealt with this injury in the past.

After missing Georgia’s win over UAB, Milton returned against Auburn but played extremely limited snaps. On Monday, Smart also attributed him working back to conditioning.

Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin

The two freshmen tight ends for Georgia have dealt with injuries to begin their collegiate career. Luckie. Luckie underwent ankle surgery similar to Mims and Spurlin broke his collarbone during spring practice.

Neither of them have seen much of the field, but that is not totally due to injuries, and Smart made the obvious statement about that.

“Could they have played? Yeah, they could have played. If they're better than Oscar and Brock -- I mean, I don't know what you want us to do,” Smart said. “Ya'll want to take Brock Bowers out and put one of them in? Anyone voting on that? I mean, if you vote that, you're not a coach. But, yeah, they're cleared.”

It is an interesting question to ask when Bowers had the day he had and Georgia was trailing to Auburn.
