UGA Football WR Ladd McConkey Named To Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

ATHENS - Georgia Bulldog junior receiver and returner Ladd McConkey was named to the 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on Tuesday. McConkey is one of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) selected based on their commitment to community service.
Georgia leads the nation in Allstate AFCA Good Works Team honorees with 23 since the award’s inception in 1992, including 18 since 2000.
For 32 years, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has recognized a select group of college football players committed to making a difference in their communities. There were also 11 combined players chosen from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Divisions II, III and the NAIA. University of Maryland head coach Mike Locksley was named the Honorary Head Coach.
McConkey, a native of Chatsworth, Ga., is one of only two players from the Southeastern Conference on the FBS 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The SEC leads all conferences with 84 all-time selections.
The Bulldogs’ previous Good Works Team honorees are Alec Millen in 1992, Travis Jones in 1993, Brian Smith in 1995, Matt Stinchcomb in 1997 and 1998, Brett Millican in 2000, Jon Stinchcomb in 2001, David Greene in 2003, D.J. Shockley in 2005, Quentin Moses in 2006, Kelin Johnson in 2007, Jeff Owens in 2009, Aron White in 2011, Aaron Murray in 2012, Chris Conley in 2014, Malcolm Mitchell in 2015, Jeb Blazevich in 2016, Aaron Davis in 2017, Rodrigo Blankenship in 2018, Jake Fromm in 2019, Nakobe Dean in 2021 and Kearis Jackson in 2022.

Both Dean in 2021 and Mitchell in 2015 were voted captains of their respective Good Works Teams.
McConkey has given his time to the community in a variety of ways, including working with the following organizations or events: Camp Rainbow, Elks Aidmore Therapeutic Foster Care, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Georgia Division of Family & Children Services, Books For Keeps, Read Across America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Food Bank, local hospitals, Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer Golf Tournament, The David Pollack Foundation, Extra Special People “Bulldogs and Buddies” Practice visitation, Extra Special People Big Ball For All and many more.
On the field, McConkey played in all 30 games during Georgia’s run to back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022, starting 20 of those contests. He has accounted for 1,209 receiving yards on 89 catches and scored 12 receiving touchdowns while also running the ball 11 times for 178 yards and three scores. McConkey has added 21 punt returns for 279 yards.
McConkey graduated in the 2023 spring with a degree in Finance and a 3.85 GPA (Magna Cum Laude). The College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-District Team member is currently enrolled in the Entrepreneurship Certificate program.
Allstate will continue its tradition of rewarding these student-athletes for their remarkable commitment to community service with an NIL opportunity as well as a charity match from The Allstate Foundation.

The No. 1 Bulldogs (2-0) play host to South Carolina (1-1) in the teams’ Southeastern Conference opener on Saturday. CBS will air the contest at 3:30 p.m.
