ATHENS - Kirby Smart and UGA Football just landed another major defender on the recruiting trail.
4-star linebacker, Chris Cole.
Ranked as the No. 5 linebacker in the country for the 2024 class, Cole is coming off an official visit to Tennessee this past weekend, but it didn’t matter. As we’ve reported for several months now, the Bulldogs have been trending with Cole since the summer, and today, they landed his commitment.
Cole took his official visit to Georgia back in June and sources say the Salem (VA) standout was high on Glenn Schumann’s board from the beginning.
At 6-foot-3 215-pounds, Cole has a lengthy frame and is one of the more athletic linebackers in the 2024 class.

Georgia checked all the boxes when it comes to academics, football, and the great support staff! Coach Smart said that I was high on his board because I’m intelligent and very athletic as well as a versatile player that would make a great fit for the UGA program.”
What will Cole bring to UGA Football?
Instincts, athleticism, and versatility.
A former defensive back, Cole has put on a decent amount size and muscle over the last 12 months, allowing him to play closer to the line of scrimmage. Now, he’s become one of the top linebackers in his class.
He has a long, promising frame and knows how to tackle. He’s fundamentally sound, wraps up, and can make a sound tackle in the open field. He has enough physical tools to play at a high level, but he’s also incredibly smart with great instincts. He can read a defense, and knows how to attack the ball-carrier. As a former safety, Cole also brings above-average cover skills to the linebacker position. His length and quickness allows him to suceed in man coverage, and he closes quickly in zone coverage as well.
This is a defender who can run and tackle. He knows his job, and as a gifted athlete, his ceiling appears to be very high as a rangy middle linebacker.
He can get sideline to sideline, but he’s also a weapon as a blizter from the inside. He can sneak through traffic and consistently finds his way into the backfield.
He’s improved every year and his ranking has risen more and more over time. Theere’s a lot to like about his game, and playing under Glenn Schumann, his game will improve the minute he steps on campus.
Cole is ranked as the No. 5 LB prospect, the No. 1 prospect in Virginia and the No. 54 overall prospect in the country.
He becomes Georgia’s third inside linebacker commitment and 27th overall commitment in the 2024 class.
