UGA Football Opens as Huge Favorites over South Carolina Gamecocks

ATHENS - A year ago, Kirby Smart’s UGA Football program buried South Carolina with a lopsided 48-7 win over the Gamecocks. 

The Dawgs were listed as 20.5-point favorites a year ago. On Sunday, oddsmakers put the Dawgs as a four-touchdown favorite to top their fine-feathered friends from across the Savannah River. The game will be broadcast by CBS at 3:30 PM.

Georgia comes into the game with the Cocks as the No. 1 team in the nation. South Carolina has struggled in 2023. The Gamecocks opened their season in Charlotte with a 31-17 loss to No. 17 Carolina. On Saturday, the Cocks were losing to in-state Furman midway into the second quarter before taking the lead in the final minute of the half. South Carolina won 47-21, but many of the problems that popped up against the Tar Heels resurfaced against Furman. 

South Carolina managed only 108 yards rushing against the Paladins. Georgia has the No. 2 scoring defense in the nation. 

Georgia has played 55 games as a 20-point or more favorite. Only once in modern history have the Bulldogs lost such a game - to South Carolina in 2019. Georgia is 8-2 in its last ten games with the Cocks (2014; 2019). This is the fifth season in a row the Dawgs have been at least a 20-point favorite to beat USC.
