ATHENS - UGA Football and co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann strike gold.

AGAIN.

This time they land one of the top overall prospects in the country in five-star linebacker, Justin Williams‍.

A crazy athletic linebacker who can really run at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, Williams was in Athens in late May for their annual “scavenger hunt” weekend, but after an official visit to Georgia the weekend of June 23rd, the Bulldogs took the lead over Oregon. Today the Dawgs landed his public commitment.

Williams now joins his Oak Ridge (TX) teammate, Joseph Jonah-Ajonye‍, on the commit list.

Georgia may not have landed 5-star Sammy Brown‍, and it’s not looking like they’ll hold onto Demarcus Riddick‍, who will make his “final decision” between Georgia, Alabama and Auburn on Wednesday. But landing Williams more than makes up for it. He’s an elite linebacker who should thrive in Georgia’s defense. Schumann did sign three outstanding inside linebackers in the 2023 class, but it will be tough to keep Williams on the bench for very long.

“Georgia’s somewhere you can grow in all aspects of life,” Williams told Dawg Post.

What will Williams bring to Athens?

Speed, toughness, and natural instincts.

Williams can run and hit with the best linebackers across the country. A track star as well, Williams brings 11.01-second 100-meter speed along with a 6-foot-5 wingspan. He also ran a 23.04-second 200-meter time earlier this spring. That’s an excellent time for a 210-pound linebacker. He can chase down the ball carrier from behind and can get sideline to sideline against the run. He sheds blocks with ease and attacks the ball-carrier. He already looks like an easy SEC-caliber linebacker who could contribute some this fall.

Williams has a high football IQ and a natural feel for the game. He can attack the quarterback on the blitz, but his ability to stop the run is why he’s one of the nation’s best. He knows how to deliver a big hit and will bring an intimidating presence to Georgia’s defense. He shows great footwork, moves well laterally, and closes on the ball-carrier in a hurry.

He passes the “grandmother” test. Anyone who watches him play can quickly tell that he’s playing on another level. He runs faster, hits harder, and makes more plays than anyone on the field. He has a true nose for the football and always found a way to make a big, secure tackle.

It’s really tough to find a weakness in his game. He sheds blocks, plays physical, and consistently finds his way into the backfield. He’s incredibly disruptive and one of the most athletic linebackers not only in Texas, but across the country in the 2024 class. He checks all the boxes and will only get better playing for Kirby Smart, Glenn Schumann, and Will Muschamp when he gets to Athens.

As a junior last season, Williams made 105 tackles, 18 TFLs, and 8.5 sacks, earning Texas District 13-6A Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Williams is ranked as the No. 1 MLB prospect and No. 13 overall prospect in the country.

If the 5-star defender develops under the Georgia staff the way most expect, he could be another 1st-round pick coached by Glenn Schumann, who also coached the highest-paid current linebacker in the NFL in Baltimore Ravens star, Roquan Smith.

With Smith on board, the Ravens NFL odds to win the Super Bowl sit at +1800 according to FanDuel.
