Georgia Bulldog Golfer Brian Harman Credits Kirby Smart After Major Championship Win

ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have officially made an impact all over the world.

Former Georgia Bulldog golfer Brian Harmon won the 2023 Open Championship in Royal Liverpool Golf Course today with an amazing -13 score, blowing away the competition to win his very first PGA major victory.

It’s a life-changing victory for the former Bulldog, who admitted afterwards that a Kirby Smart quote from last year helped calm his nerves and keep him focused heading into Sunday’s final round.

“I was a wreck last night”, Harman said after his Open Championship victory. “I’ve been a wreck the whole week. I kept thinking of something Kirby Smart said. I’m not going to be hunted. I’m going to hunt. I decided to get out and try and take as much control as I could.”

Harman isn’t necessarily a “big name” on the PGA Tour, but he’s been successful for several years now, winning the John Deere Classic in 2014 and the Wells Fargo Championship in 2017. Harman also finished as a runner-up at the 2017 U.S. Open. Now, he’s a major champion and an Open Champion, winning a cool $3,000,000.

Another ‘Dawg that went hunting. And another ‘Dawg that won a trophy.

Kirby Smart used the “we will not be hunted line” during SEC Media Days in 2022 after leading Georgia to their first national championship victory since 1980. He made sure to let the college football world know that nobody would hunt the ‘Dawgs. Instead, the ‘Dawgs went hunting once again on the gridiron, winning the national championship again last fall.

That statement meant something. It’s not just a slogan, but a way of life now for Kirby Smart’s program, and apparently Georgia Bulldogs everywhere.
