ATHENS - Former Georgia Bulldog Anthony Edwards is finalizing a five-year maximum contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves that can reach up to $260 million, according to reports.
National Basketball Association (NBA) players that were drafted in 2020 are eligible to agree to extensions this offseason, and Edwards, along with LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets, have reached maximum agreements with their respective teams.

In his first three seasons, Edwards has averaged 21.8 points per game (PPG) and shot 35.2% from beyond the arc. He is coming off of his best season to date, where he scored over 24 PPG on his way to his first NBA All-Star appearance.
Edwards is one of the NBA’s bright young stars, and is considered to be the face of the Timberwolves’ franchise as well as a possible league superstar in the future.

This deal instantly makes Edwards the richest former Georgia basketball player in terms of earnings straight from the NBA. For perspective, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has earned close to $90 million in 10 NBA seasons, so this one contract alone puts Edwards in a class of his own.
Edwards was a five-star prospect in 2019 that spent his “one and done” year at Georgia. In that season, Edwards averaged 19.1 PPG on a not so great 40.2% shooting from the field. He was named SEC Freshman of the Year in 2020.
He was one of the top prospects that season and the face of Tom Crean’s 2019 recruiting class that included four other players ranking inside or near the top 100 mark.
Edwards will turn 22 in August and has already earned a maximum contract in the NBA, so he is on the right track for NBA superstardom.
