ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs will play the Florida Gators in Jacksonville until at least 2025.
If the City of Jacksonville’s new renderings for an updated stadium are any indication the Dawgs and Gators will play in their traditional home for their rivalry in a new, state-of-the-art facility.
On Wednesday, a release from the City of Jacksonville and the Jaguars showed renderings of Georgia-Florida, the Gator Bowl, Jags games as well as the potential for a College Football Playoff game, which is expanding to 12 teams in 2024.

The site, which has been changed significantly once in its history, has been the host of the Georgia-Florida contest since 1933 with the exception of the 1994 and 1995 games. Those two games happened on the campus of UGA and UF as the Gator Bowl was modernized to prepare for the arrival of the Jags.
INSIDER: CAN THE DAWGS AND GATORS PLAY DURING CONSTRUCTION?
Over the last quarter century the stadium has changed names and been updated slightly. But the renderings show a significant update to the stadium. The release states that the Jags and City “concluded that it was possible to solve stadium challenges via a renovation of the city-owned facility versus new construction.”
So the massively updated stadium will include a slew of new amenities including a new concourse that is 30 feet above the ground, four times wider than before and circles the stadium.
The new facility will start with a “base capacity of 62,000 with expansion capabilities up to 71,500 for a college football game and more for a concert.”
The updated stadium will be “open air” somewhat like SoFi Stadium, where the Bulldogs beat TCU 65-7 for the 2022 national title. Plans call for a so-called “shade canopy” with claims that it will “reduce heat retention by more than 70 percent, lowers temperatures 10 to 15 degrees and protect fans from the weather.”
According to FanDuel, the Bulldogs have -105 odds to win the 2023 SEC Championship next fall.
