ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs received some BIG news on the recruiting trail today.

The nation’s No. 1 linebacker prospect, 5-star Justin Williams‍, had locked in an official visit to Georgia the weekend of June 23rd.

The instinctive, hard-hitting linebacker was in Athens two weekends ago to take in the annual “scavenger hunt” weekend, and apparently, Williams wants to get back to Athens later this month.

Sources tell Dawg Post that Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are the clear team to beat at the moment, but with an official visit to Georgia set, you can’t rule out Glenn Schumann and the Georgia Bulldogs, who have developed inside linebackers better than any other college football program over the last five years.

As a junior last year for Oak Ridge, Williams made 105 tackles, 18 TFLs and 8.5 sacks. He also runs a 11.09 in the 100-meter at just under 6-foot-2 and 205-pounds.

Williams will be taking his official visit to Georgia along with Oak Ridge teammate, Joseph Jonah-Ajonye.

Williams is ranked as the No. 1 LB prospect according to the On 3 Industry Rankings. He’s also ranked as the No. 3 prospect in Texas and the No. 12 overall prospect in the country.

Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann already has one of the nation’s top linebackers on the commit list in four-star Demarcus Riddick‍ out of Chilton County (AL), but there are multiple sources that believe the in-state Alabama Crimson Tide have a great chance to flip the outstanding defender down the road. Schumann and the Bulldogs will have to do everything they can to keep Riddick on board.

Then there’s Sammy Brown‍. The No. 2 linebacker prospect in the country, Brown is a do-it-all athlete for Jefferson (GA) who has always been high on Georgia. A 5-star prospect himself, Brown will have a very busy month of June where he’ll take visits to Clemson (June 2nd), Georgia (June 9th), Oklahoma (June 16th), and Ohio State (June 23rd).

Look for the 6-foot-2 225-pounder to make a commitment in early July. Right now, Dawg Post believes this will come down to Georgia and Clemson.

Brown is ranked as the No. 2 linebacker prospect, the No. 4 prospect in Georgia, and the No. 16 overall prospect in the country.

Another linebacker target to keep an eye on is four-star Joseph Phillips‍.

A versatile defender at 6-foot-2 235-pounds who can play inside or outside linebacker, Phillips was a menace all season long as a junior and caused havoc plays left and right. He’s explosive off the snap and lived in the backfield all year long for his Booker T Washington (AL) squad, making 75 tackles, 19 TFLs, 9 sacks, 16 QB hurries, and recovering four fumbles.

He’s ranked in the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 10 LB prospect, the No. 8 prospect in Alabama, and the No. 126 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

Phillips will be in town this weekend for an official visit, and this is a recruitment that could really swing Georgia’s way sooner than later.
