ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs LB Robert Beal was picked No. 173 overall by the 49ers in the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City.
Beal ran an impressive 4.48 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and measured in at 6’4” and 247 lbs.
Former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett was not the only guy that landed in Athens in 2017. That’s right, Beal was dressed out for the Rose Bowl. He and Bennett were both six-year guys.
Beal was never really considered a star in the red and black, but he has been a key part of the rotation during Georgia’s back-to-back national championships. He actually led the team in sacks with 6.5 in 2021. There is something to be said about him being the sack leader on a defense that featured seven first round picks and the Butkus award winner.

His numbers dipped this past season, but he was a starter, and was relied on even more when Nolan Smith went down with a pectoral injury in the middle of the season. He finished 2022 with 25 total tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble.
Beal was a four star in the 2017 class and used a redshirt and the free COVID year to remain in Athens for six seasons. His next challenge will be to see if he can stick around the league for that long. That’s not something to be taken lightly.
