ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs QB Stetson Bennett was picked No. 128 overall by LA Rams in the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City.

Blackshear native Stetson Bennett will be most remembered for his improbable journey leading the Georgia Bulldogs to back-to-back national titles (Alabama in 2021 and TCU in 2022). Bennett arrived in Athens as a walk-on player, then transferred to a junior college only to return to Athens.

His persistence in Silver Britches proved too much to deny. Bennett took over the starting quarterback job at Georgia in October 2021 before Georgia’s 37-0 win over No. 8 Arkansas. He lost one game after that. Bennett’s performances against Michigan and Ohio State paved the way to national titles. The win over the Buckeyes at the Peach Bowl will go down as one of the great games in UGA and College Football Playoff history.

I think Stetson has proved a lot of people wrong already,” Kirby told ESPN on Thursday.

Bennett’s final game for the Dawgs likely cemented his place in college football history. But his future in professional ball was much less clear.

"No matter when he goes, or where he goes he's going to continue to prove people wrong. He's uber-talented. He's got great athleticism. The part that people don't give him credit for - he's already played in the system,” Kirby added. “Todd Monken's system has been all over the NFL. So he can walk into a huddle; he can anticipate throws; he's seen all the defenses. He's played in the right type of system.”
