ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are losing two more players to the NCAA transfer portal.

Rian Davis and Shone Washington, both reserve players on the Bulldogs roster, have entered the portal. It is unclear where both players will go at this time.

The duo join Bear Alexander, who had a sudden departure from UGA - announcing on social media that he was leaving the program by the portal only two hours before the Bulldogs were set to kickoff G Day in Sanford Stadium.

"You know, that's the way of the world. It's who handles it and manages it best,” Kirby said of the portal after G Day. “It’s a new climate we're in. The window will open and all across the country there will be guys going in and looking for greener pastures. Ultimately the climate we have created and more power to them. We've got a lot of guys who have benefitted from the portal and I hope we benefit from the portal. We had a couple guys out there today that came by way of the portal that made really good plays. It's the climate we're in and we'll do the best we can to capitalize on it. But I'm very pleased with what we've got on our team and our roster. It's not a way we're going to build a team by any means.”

Davis played in 14 of the Dawgs’ 15 games a season ago. He started Georgia’s lopsided win over Auburn in Athens. He concluded the season with 15 tackles. Washington only played once in 2022.

The Bulldogs are expected to enter 2023 as the No. 1 team in the country. Georgia opens up the 2023 season in Sanford Stadium against Tennessee-Martin in September.
