ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs wrapped up 2023 spring football with G Day on Saturday.

And the eight-year head coach didn’t cover up his enthusiasm for his team: "I am excited," Kirby said. "We are not trying to be a one-hit wonder.”

Georgia just wrapped up back-to-back national titles. On Saturday the Dawgs were Between the Hedges to introduce a new mascot, have G Day and in the process figure out who the starting quarterback for the 2023 season will be.

"I was really please with all three quarterbacks. We have three good quarterbacks. They can make the throws,” Kirby said after the event. "Carson has been in our system the longest. The key is they all get to develop. I can assure you there is no one in the country getting more reps than our guys because we had three deep this spinet, and we will have four deep this fall. Some universities can't give them the reps because they don't have the depth.”

Then this from Kirby:

"We should be good. We should be productive. We have good players. We have good coaches.”

He then reacted to the news that former Georgia Bulldogs DL Bear Alexander is reportedly in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

“That's the way of the world - who handles and manages it the best. The transfer window will open up and guys lookin for greener pastures," Kirby said when asked about Bear Alexander reportedly leaving UGA via the portal. "More power to them. We have had a lot of guys benefit from the portal, and more power to them. But I am very pleased with what we have on our roster.”

On the subject of Boom, Georgia’s new and young mascot, and the Dawgs former mascot UGA X, Kirby said he was glad to have outlasted one of the mascots, and that he had something in common with them.

“I don't know much. I know the name - Boom - I don't know where that came from. It is an honor to outlast one of the (dogs). I know I need water like they do,” he said.
