ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs may not have Jalen Carter next year, but it may not matter.

Bulldog assistant coach Tray Scott has a veteran, experienced defensive line group heading into spring practice this year mixed in with some young, hungry, talented defensive linemen ready to make a name for themselves.

The Bulldogs, thanks to a dominant defensive line, have had the best defense in college football for the last two seasons. Even without Jalen Carter, don’t expect much of a drop-off from Georgia’s stout defensive line in 2023.

While everyone is excited for some of the younger players like Mykel Williams and Bear Alexander, it’s the experienced veterans who could lead the way on the defensive line next fall. Here’s a quick reminder of who they are...

Nazir Stackhouse

Arguably Georgia’s top interior defensive lineman as far as experience and production. Stackhouse will be entering his fourth season in Athens this year and will bring plenty of big game experience to Georgia’s veteran group. The former 4-star out of Stephenson High School is currently listed at 6-foot-3 320-pounds and coming off a junior season where he started all 15 games according to georgiadogs.com, making 33 tackles, three TFLs, and a big blocked kick in Georgia’s 2022 SEC Championship win over LSU. Look for him to make an even bigger impact in his final season next fall.

Zion Logue

Another big, experienced interior lineman who was listed as a starter in 14 of 15 games last year, Logue may not “flash” as much as other defensive linemen on the roster, but he’s someone who consistently does his job each play. The big Tennessee native is listed at 6-foot-5 295-pounds and made 16 tackles last year. He also forced one fumble, recovered another, and made five QB hurries last year. He’ll bring even more experience and leadership to the group this year.

Tramel Walthour

Heading into his 5th season in 2023, Walthour remains one of the more forgotten defensive linemen on the roster. Like Logue, he may not light up the stat sheet, but the leaner interior lineman at 6-foot-3 280-pounds does his job consistently. He closes running lanes against the run and played consistently throughout the 2022 season, seeing the field in all 15 games during Georgia’s back-to-back championship season. The Hinesville, Georgia native knows his role, loves the Georgia program, and could see his role increase more and more next year as one of the older players in the room. Walthour made 24 tackles last year with one sack and 9 more QB hurries.

Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins

It’s go-time for Ingram-Dawkins in 2023. A big-time prospect out of high school in the 2021 class out of Gaffney High School, the big 6-foot-5 300-pounder was a former 5-star prospect according to 247 Sports. Entering his third season this spring, now is the time he should take the next step. As a sophomore in 2022, Ingram-Dawkins played in 14 of 15 games, recording 10 tackles and recovering a fumble against Tennessee. He’ll occasionally flash big-play ability and should see more playing time next fall. If he continues to develop and work hard over the next six months, Ingram-Dawkins could be a candidate to have a true “breakout” year as a junior.

Warren Brinson

Another defensive lineman who can be easy to forget about at times, Brinson will be a senior this year and looking to end his career on a high note. A quick but powerful lineman at 6-foot-3 305-pounds, the Savannah native played in all 15 games last year and recorded 12 tackles with three of them coming behind the line of scrimmage. He also added one sack and an impressive 14 QB hurries. Three of those hurries came against the Gators and three more came against the Volunteers. He’ll bring more experience and the ability to get after the quarterback next fall.
