ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are in the market for a new offensive coordinator.

The Baltimore Ravens annouced Tuesday morning that Todd Monken has been hired for the same position.

"We conducted 21 interviews with 14 candidates throughout a thorough process that had wide-ranging organizational involvement," John Harbaugh said in a statment. "Todd's leadership and coaching acumen were evident from the beginning. He has a proven track record for designing and teaching offensive systems that allow players to succeed at the highest level. We're excited to get to work and begin building an offense that will help us compete for championships."

Monken has eight years of experience in the NFL, including four years as a coordinator. He last led attacks for the Browns (2019) and Tampa Bay (2016-18). The move means Kirby will have to fill the spot left by Monken heading into spring football.

“We are extremely thankful and appreciative of the three years Todd and his wife, Terri, have spent with our UGA family,” said Kirby siad in a statement.  “We wish them the best as he moves on to the Ravens organization.”

The Bulldogs now enter 2023 without Stetson Bennett and Monken - a duo that helped the Bulldogs become one of the top offenses in the country.

Georgia was No. 5 in in the country in points per game (39.8) and No. 8 in scrimmage yards per game (472.0) in 2023. The Bulldogs rushed for 198.1 rushing yards per game as well. In 2022, Georgia led the nation in total net yards (7,517) and total points (616).

Mike Bobo was elevated to Monken’s former spot, UGA said in a statment on Tuesday

Monken’s move to the NFL could also effect the upcoming battle for the starting quarterback spot. Rising junior Carson Beck was the backup quarterback in 2023. He played in nearly half of the Bulldogs games last year. He will have to hold off Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton. The Bulldogs are set to hold the annual G Day game on April 15, 2023.
