Philadelphia Eagles / Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Loaded With Peach-State Talent

ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs may be taking some time off after winning back-to-back national championships last month, but there’s still one more football game to be played this year.

Of course, it’s the Super Bowl. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. According to FanDuel, it’s the Philadelphia Eagles who have the best odds to win the Super Bowl as they’re currently 1.5-point favorites with just two days before the big game.

As usual, the Super Bowl has multiple Georgia Bulldogs on the roster, but there are plenty of peach-state natives playing in the game as well.

Let’s take a look at how many Georgia natives are playing in the game...

Darius Slay - DB - Brunswick High School

One of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, Slay is a Brunswick native who has had a very dependable NFL career so far with the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles. A 1st-team All-Pro selection in 2017, Slay is a 5-time Pro Bowler who has made 513 total NFL tackles along with 26 career INTs. With the Eagles this season, Slay has made 38 total tackles and three INTs.

Mecole Hardman - WR - Elbert County

A former 5-star prospect and one of the fastest high school prospects across the country in the 2016 class, Hardman made a massive impact for the Georgia Bulldog in college before being selected by the Kansas City Chiefs. Hardman won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs as a rookie in 2019, and now he’s looking to earn his second ring this weekend. Hardman was banged up this past 2022 season, catching just 25 passes this year for 297 yards and four touchdowns. He’s listed as “doubtful” for the Super Bowl.

Jerick McKinnon - RB - Sprayberry

A talented running back who has had an excellent NFL career so far, McKinnon was a talented running back out of Sprayberry in Cobb County who went on to have a massive career at Georgia Southern before being selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 3rd round of the 2014 NFL Draft. After playing for the Vikings and 49ers from 2014-2020, the Georgia native has spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs and coming off an impressive 2022 regular season where he rushed for 291 yards and had 512 receiving yards. 

Jaylen Watson - DB - Laney

Another standout defensive back on the Chiefs roster, Watson is an Augusta native out of Laney High School who went from an unknown high school and college prospect to a starting defensive back for the AFC Champions. As a rookie in 2022, Watson has made 44 tackles, six pass deflections, one INT, and one defensive touchdown.

Orlando Brown Jr - OL - Peachtree Ridge

A massive offensive tackle out of Peachtree Ridge High School in 2014, Brown Jr flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Oklahoma and had a very successful career with the Sooners before being selected in the 3rd round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. One of the top offensive tackles in the NFL over the last several years, the big 6-foot-8 360-pounder is a four-time Pro Bowl selection (2019-2022) and playing at the top of his game. He’s blocking for one of thee best QBs in the game and has helped lead one of the best offenses in the NFL this year for the Chiefs.
