ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs got a commitment Saturday night from one of the fastest players in the country.

Pebblebrook ATH Dwight Phillips, Jr annouced on social media that he had committed to Kirby and the Bulldogs Satuday night. Phillips was on a trip to UGA.

“Phillips is one of the fastest 2024 prospects in the country and the current 7A 100-meter state champion after running a 10.43 last spring,” Dawg Post’s Matt DeBary said. “He can line up in multiple spots on the field. Whether he’s lined up out wide at receiver, in the backfield or returning kicks, Phillips is always a threat with the ball in his hands.”

Georgia’s 2024 Commits

A 2024 commit, Phillips picked the the Bulldogs over a host of schools. He is following his father’s footsteps into the SEC. The elder Phillips ran track at Kentucky after winning state titles at Tucker High School in both basketball and track.

He went on to capture gold in long jump during the Athens Olympics in 2004. Phillips was one of the most explosive athletes in his time, too, winning multiple world titles in long jump from 2003 to 2011.

Phillips, Jr. ran for 774 yards on 62 carries with seven touchdowns as a running back. He added nine catches for 245 yards and two scores.

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have +250 odds to win the 2023 national championship next fall according to FanDuel.
